increased CPU load in things that never had

Morning all

I have been playing some old game this morning, which up until now have always ran fine, but now i seem to be getting lag and stuttering with xfire both on and off, and a CPU load of 95-100% constant. Pro Street used to run fine at circa 60+ FPS, but now its laggy as sin for no reason

Any clues as to why this can start to happen? Sup Com was the same a minute ago too.

with the second card, it makes no odds if xfire is disabled, it just sits there from what i know.
