Increased delivery costs

I am a regular customer with OcUk and I was looking to probably purchase a new set of headphones and possibly some other few bits of gear.

What I immediately noticed is just with the headphones alone the delivery costs to Gibraltar via DHL and parcelforce have increased substantially.

What used to cost £10 pounds to send another set of headphones in the past has now risen to £31 pounds.

This is over a 200% increase in cost.

I have also tested sending just a USB flash drive alone and the delivery cost for that is £22.57 pounds DHL and £35.00 with parcelforce.

Whats going on? Why have the costs for delivery risen so substantially?

P.S. Does the forum loyalty offer not work at all for Customers ordering from Gibraltar?

It's over a 300% increase! not 200%

If you are ordering from another country then you have to be willing to pay the postage. That's the same with anything.

Free shipping applies to destinations within mainland UK only and excludes Highlands and Islands. So this will not apply for you unless you move to England.:p

I think the free delivery is uk only. Don't know why prices have increased so much. However Ocuk can't control delivery prices directly, it would be the companies that you mentioned that you would have to take this up with. Although, tbh I doubt it would make any difference.

Thats not the point. The point is why have the costs risen so substantially.

As i stated in my original post it used to cost £10pounds for previous set of headphones why is it now £31 pounds.

The same goes with most other pieces of hardware since ive been checking ... the costs are way higher now for some reason. Any explanation?

To be honest, this is to be expected when shipping internationally. It cost me £20 to ship a pair of earrings over from the States for my girlfriend, and that was from a big e-tailer.:(

I can understand the extra costs for shipping internationally. What I cant understand is a huge unjustified rise in costs for delivery without any specific explanation why.

The two items I was looking at separately to check were
Creative Fatal1ty Professional Gaming Headset MkII (51EF0250AA002) [51EF0250AA002]
and
Corsair Flash Voyager Mini 16GB USB2.0 Flash Drive (CMFUSBMINI-16GB) [CMFUSBMINI-16GB]

Checking my order history I have previously sent an order with about 4 items which I would think is larger and heavier than these two items and it cost me £22.44.

Sending these two items together costs me £32 pounds.

Another Gibraltar customer here. Yes, I noticed Royal Mail delivery has increased in price, but I dont think the courier alternative has. Regular Mail was always 3 times cheaper and now it isnt.

All its meant for me is I use DHL more often now as Royal Snail is slower and regular mail usually has less guarantees if parcels are lost. Also our local mail doesnt deliver any parcels at home/office, they leave a pick-up note (and that takes 2 or 3 days to get to you, additional to the time the parcel took to arrive in Gibraltar). You then have to go and pick up the parcel from a depot yourself.

The other idiosincracy of ours of our customs charges duty not just on the value of the parcel but on the courier/mail fee itself. This is their way of making sure that merchants dont do the usual trick of saying something is worth peanuts and charging the rest of the real price through shipping costs so that import fees are small. Unfortunately it also means that every honest client pays a fortune of duty over time that he shouldnt need to.

That said couriers in Gibraltar are a joke as they are all nasty franchises and the customs clearance process here is silly, so a parcel can take 36 hours to get to Gibraltar and then another 48 for you to get the parcel at home. Best way is to call the courier the moment the tracking shows your parcel is in Gib. and tell them you will clear it yourself. Pick up the papers from them, go to customs, pay the fees, head back to the courier's office and get the parcel.

Edit: At least OcUK are one of the better stores when it comes to purchasing from Gibraltar. They deduct VAT automatically, they actually list Gibraltar...plenty of online shops out there make it a mission to buy from this rocky corner of the planet.

Edit: There is a UK store that does deliver free to Gibraltar too. However they dont deduct VAT. Obviously cannot mention it here as it is a competitor. The prices are usually more expensive than OcUK though, but for small things such as USB pens it works out better. For larger stuff OCuK is better even after the courier fee.

Agreed the process is terrible here. I noticed that Fedex were much quicker in terms of delivery and handling though. Got packages the next day (yes i did have to go collect to package). The prices have definately gone up though especially checking against other previous charges.

Cant state the same experience with Fedex locally. They took two days to clear one of my parcels. The UPS franchise changed from Bland Travel to Redwood recently, but I think they used to clear all their parcels for the day together, using a clearing agent (i.e. clearing fee £10) and then charge each recipient the £10 clearing fee.

(Edit: And yes, we had a travel company called Bland Travel lol)

Maybe because the weather has gotten worse and rises in petrol.
Prices also vary depending on how many packages are sent to that area.
If its you AND only you getting a delivery in gibralta, that meens they're sending a person all the way there just for one tiny package. So ofcourse it will cost a lot.

Naw we have a DHL hub here in gibraltar that to the best of my knowledge is heavily used. Maybe not as much as in the uk but thats what they told me. I had a light chat with them and they basically passed the buck back to OcUk saying to discuss the costs with them.

Is there still anything to report on delivery costs ? Im not interesting in buying headphones for 20 pounds and paying 31 pounds to deliver them when its cost me 10 pounds to send a set in a previous order
