Increasing FSB

I am planning on overclocking my new PC. I've read the guide in the forum, and I'm wondering if 'increasing the FSB by 5mhz then testing', can be flexed a little. I mean, what would the disadvantages be of just upping the FBS to what I want, then testing it, as opposed to testing it every 5mhz? Would it still be safe to up the FSB to what I want then, if it fails testing, decrease it by 5mhz, test; decrease it by another 5mhz, test etc?

Well with a Q6600 I would start at 320mhz and move up 10mhz at a time.

The 5mhz step is a better bet for the AMD processors that would top out at 280-320 mhz.

Thanks. I will try that. In addition, do you think it's worth trying to obtain a higher FBS with a lower multipler, or shall I just stick to the default '9' multiplier? I've heard some people say that it is best to try and achieve the highest FBS you can, but others have said that, despite the theory, it offers no real-world performance difference..

Well if it offers you better options with your memory then it's perfectly acceptable to drop the multi.

But i would stick with the default til you know what your CPU can do.
