Hi All. This my first post at Overclockers, and i am seeking advice.

I decided to increase my RAM from 4-to-8, my original 4 RAM is Corsair 2x2 DDR2
I have been having a problem trying to match the Corsair with my Mobo which is a Striker Extreme with DDR2 slots. I came across an American company called "Crucial.com " which scanned my computer and suggested a compatable set of 2x2 DDR2 RAM which i purchased and fitted.

I then found that after fitting this new set of memory sticks my computer would not re-boot, I have removed the new set and now my computer is working fine, I have sent an email to Crucial.com also for advice, but thought i would have a chat to you guys also.

I suppose that my computer is not recognizing the new memory sticks ?

Intel core 2 quad cpu 2.40 GHz
4 GB ram
Gigabyte 570GTX graphics card
Windows 7

Hope someone can help, Cheers, JM.

Thanks for the reply. the original memory sticks that i have fitted are- Corsair Dominator 4GB[2x2GB] PC2-8500 1066 MHz

The sticks which i have just bought are- Crucial 2GB 240-Pin Dim 256mx64 DDR2

My motherboard-Asus Striker Extreme which as said in the first post has DDR2 slots [4]
and no I have not tried the new RAM on its own ? Thanks. JM.

Hi. Yes i will try the Crucial RAM only, and no I dont know its speed, Also I have just received an email from Crucial asking for the specs of the Corsair Dominator sticks.

I have found it almost impossible to find a matching Corsair Dominator DDR2 memory sticks here in Australia [ old tech ] would you know of anywhere in the UK were they may still have these sticks, because i think that the only sure way out of this problem is the fit another matching pair of Corsairs. Thanks. JM.

Went back to Crucial site and looked up the memory recommended and those that I bought and this is the data- PC2-8500 CL=7 Unbuffeted NON ECC DDR2 1066 1.8v 256MG x 64 Cheers. JM.

Hi Snapshot., As suggested I tried the computer only with the Crucial memory installed, and they will not work, when I power up all I can hear is a high pitch whistle and thats all !

I have sent a reply back to Crucial stating this and suggested that they either replace the memory with a set that is compatible, or I return by post and get a refund, so shall wait and see. Thanks. JM.

One more question before i go. in your opinion. is increasing RAM really benificial, I fly combat flight sims [ Cliffs of Dover ] and also play the latest shooters [ modern warfare 3, Battlefield 3 ] I have a good graphic card installed [ Gigabyte 570 GTX overclocked ] so would going from 4 to 8 RAM be really noticeable. And if this is so, perhaps I should be looking at replacing my motherboard so that i can install DDR3 ? Thanks for your support. JM.
