Hi,
I run the web side of www.extremelargeness.com and after checking our web logs we appear to be losing lots of unique visits each month. Here's a quick comparison; March 2008 - 11854 Visits/418393 Hits, August 2008 341 Visits/15912, January 2009 199 Visits/15675 Hits and it's basically been in that vein each month in between. Losing 11603 unique visitors over 11 months seems a bit crazy to me and after delving more into the stats it seems in March 08 we had 8446 sites (I think that means that referr to us?) yet in January we had just 1777. It seems every month we're getting less and less traffic even though we're adding more and more stock every few weeks.

We occasionally use myspace/facebook and try to add people/post bulletins/etc to increase traffic but it doesn't seem to, we signed up to an SEO company in December and it's made no noticeable difference yet.

Does anyone have any advice on ways we could perhaps drive more traffic to the site that are proven to work?

Thanks in advance.

Have you been keeping a track of the number of cross site links being built, as google has your site as have 1070.

Can't say we have to be honest, only started here in September and just recently started taking a look at the stats and possible marketing ideas.

<title>Extreme Largeness - Online Shop - Alternative, Gothic, Emo, Metal, Punk & Rave Clothing & Accessories for Men and Women.</title>

Your title tag has keywords that are far too generic. Each comma is a new keyword. You are assuming that people typing "gothic" are looking for "gothic" clothing. Quite a big assumption. Personally I would have no more than 4 main keywords in your title tag. Such as Gothic Clothing, Alternative Clothing, etc.

Try "gothic clothing", or even better "gothic mens clothing".

<meta name="keywords" content=",punk accessories, skater accessories, sterling silver earstuds uk, sterling silver jewellery, watches, mosher accessories, emo accessories, bags, spinning poi, body jewellery, tongue bar
eyebrow bar, labret, lip ring, nose ring, fake piercing, new rave, nu rave, neon makeup, uv makeup, facepaint, face and body paint, wholesale.">

Ok, there is some debate if google actually bothers using keywords to rank your page. But lets say that they do, then you have to make sure that you have content on that page that match those keywords. Do you? If you don't then why bother, it's pointless.

Limit the keywords to about 5-6, make them specific rather than generic, and make damn sure you have content on the page that matches the keywords.

You page has almost no content.

When adding content, use <Hx> tags. Rember you can only have one H1 tag, so make sure it is a good one.

<meta name="description" content=", Extreme Largeness sell; sterling silver jewellery, nu rave accessories, neon makeup, accesssories and poi for punks, emo's, moshers, rockers or other alternative people in the UK. Wholesale available.">

Ahh, the good old description tag. Make this readable to the customer, google only uses this in the snippet underneath your URL in the natural listings. If you don't have a description, it is will use the first text it see's. Remember a human will be reading this, not a robot. Read it back to yourself and see if it makes sense. Currently your doesn't.

I could do a full SEO (white hat) on your site, but I do this for a fee. But hey, you have just got some good advice for free. Good luck.

E-mail newsletters [opt-in, of course] and interesting editorial content, regularly updated.

Forums too, possibly. They seem to have done this place no harm, after all.

Give your site character, and a reason for people to revisit. The more often someone revisits, the more likely they are to think of your site when they want something you're likely to sell.

It's not just about search engine fine-tuning; it's also about social engineering.
