Due to stability issues I recently downclocked my 930 from 4.4ghz to 4ghz. I noticed a very slight decrease in general performance, although this could just be a placebo.

At 20x200, the Ram speed is 1600mhz and therefore the uncore is 3200mhz. I kept the ram at 1.6 and increased the uncore to 3.4. Once again it might be a placebo but it seems to have made my pc a bit quicker.

From what I've read, it's best to have the uncore at an 8:10 ratio with core speed, and double ram speed. Increasing it simply decreases stability.

I was wondering if anyone has tried pushing their uncore further, and how far they've managed? I'm going to run a few benchmarks and see if uncore affects my fps in games.

Uncore is indeed a very important part of what pushes your PC (read CPU) performance up. It is tied into the capacity of your CPU to manage the RAM. A good uncore is worth a good few 100 frequency of CPU clock speed.

To push your uncore higher you need to apply voltage. And that requires good cooling. So unless you have good cooling there are ceilings - and no there is no universal or sods law as to what the ceiling is. Each CPU is unique.

Basically that is why serious benchers will go through 30 or 40 CPU's before they find one that is really good.

My CPU is pretty stable at 3400mhz uncore. At a very cold room temp (can't be more than 10'c) the temps across the cores max out at about 38'c on Arkham Asylum and Bad Company 2 :D
