Hi guys,

I got my Dad a lovely new ASUS laptop just before Christmas but he's complaining about the volume... as in it's a bit too quiet for him. It is quieter than his Lenovo but not by a massive margin I wouldn't have said?

Is there anything I can do in Windows, add to Windows etc., any apps or anything that will enhance his experience?

Thanks.

Quiet when he's doing what?
Playing videos or music
Then most apps have an equaliser that can increase volume
Also check if there's anything like realtek audio console installed
Or sonic studio since its asus
That can have an equaliser that affects system wide volume
Whereas something like vlc may only affect files played through it

Good point, I'm not really sure without checking with him to be honest - I'm seeing him tomorrow so will check properly.

I'm guessing it'll be mainly web things, YouTube, news videos etc.

If realtek audio console
Or asus sonic studio aren't on it
Then can also check in windows sound mixer
I think latest versions may have removed loudness equaliser
But you should also have options to adjust volume for
Individual applications
Such as Web browsers etc if they're not already at max

And no offence intended
But maybe if your dad's a bit older
His hearing may be not so great

Other options if none mentioned work
A portable Bluetooth speaker maybe
Or if he uses headphones
A usb DAC
Got an Asus one with my motherboard though never tried it
But would assume it would make a good difference

Do we have identical number of post counts?
Totally off subject lol
But what's the odds of that

Nah, you're spot on, thanks for the suggestions! He is in his 70's but he never had any issue with his Lenovo laptop - and I don't think his hearing has deteriorated in a month. I'll have a look tomorrow and report back.

Definitely odd about the post count :D

To be honest the speakers on most laptops aren't *really* meant for using (same as monitors), some exceptions aside which are marketed as having "special" audio setups. Bit of a pain but better using stand alone speakers or headphones.

EDIT: Check what software is installed - some stuff like Nahimic gets bundled these days which can actually do more negative than positive often messing with the audio output levels, etc.
