Increasing Wireless range on laptop

Does anyone know any tricks for increasing the range for laptop wireless cards. I have a Toshiba Portege R500. The card is built in and the range isn't amazing. Id love to be able to sit in the garden with a nice beer browsing the web.

What wireless router are you using? Some of the Linksys routers running Tomato allow you to boost the tx/rx levels.

im not sure to be honest im at my dads. Its the sky sagem one i believe form some googleing that its a sagem f@st 2054. Its not written on the router its. The router also doesn't have an aerial so its not simply a case of just upgrading that.

Ah right, sounds like you're limited to moving the router to a better spot or buying a range extender. I've had mixed success with the latter, but worth a shot I guess.
