I think that's a fire after the shell hit, not the shell actually hitting them. Nice photo journalism though. Gotta respect those nutters!

yeah it's the shell exploding just before the shock wave hits them.

And yes, they do a great job, would love to get out there and work alongside them.

Unreal how the Photographer would have been talking to and shooting those guys, next second they are dead.

He must have been using a telephoto and would be glad of it.

You can see that the frame in the OP was taken just as the shock wave hits the man standing, because his trousers are pressed to his legs during the shot.

Saw this on Reddit and I was dumbstruck.
