I've just moved my main computer around and as a result can no longer use the relatively short bit of cat5 I'd strung from my switch (in another room) into the room my computer is in. As I recently upgraded my computer to a motherboard which came with a wireless network card (M2N32 SLI Deluxe with a 'WiFi-AP Solo') I thought I'd just use the wireless network I have running from my router (Linksys WAG354G).
Unfortunately the connection is incredibly flaky. It will associate and then disassociate immediately something like 15 or 20 times before it finally gets a connection which I can use. Even that will die fairly quickly, however. I've already got a Hawking 8dbi aerial for my computer but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. I've tried laptops in the same place as my computer and they work fine.
My main question is: is this problem symptomatic of a poor NIC, a poor AP or just a poor signal? Alternatively, could it be down to settings? On my router there are a load of complicated-sounding 'advanced settings' for the wireless connection which I have left to defaults.
I could do with sorting this out fairly urgently, so any suggestions will be gratefully received
