Hello all.

My Wii is being extremely noisy, I think it's the CD drive as it's only noisy when a game is inserted. Anyways is there anyway I can fix this or will I have to get Nintendo to replace?

Thanks

mines noisey when it starts up and also when you return to the main screen, probably nothing to worry about unless it sounds like its eating the discs :p

Are these recently manufactured Wii's I wonder? My old one was pretty quiet. Perhaps Nintendo are sourcing different manufacturers for the dvd drive to meet demand? /speculation

Mine was from about this same time last year so not recent. It's been like it for ages, i just never really thought much of it as it hasn't affected any games playing

I've had two problems with noise with the old Wii

1) Dust. It was sat idle for about three months and after that started making awful noises when there was a disc in the drive. The careful application of a vacuum to the disc slot and air intake on the bottom and fan area took care of that.

2) Balance. new TV cabinet wouldnt take Wii vertical so off its stand it came (seemed to make even less noise after this as well). But then I started playing Metroid Prime, everything seemed fine till I popped in a Wii game and I started getting odd noises, long load times and stuttering music.
I'd lazily opened the flaps for the gc memory and controller but not removed them so the Wii was on a very slight angle, removing the gc stuff and closing the flaps stopped the problem.(I know I could have removed them)

Just laid it down and it's silent when playing games, so there's obviously a problem but there is no dust etc. It was a replacement for my first Wii which was artifacting so it's a good few months old, but like I say it's absolutely silent on it's front but when vertical is very noisy.

The loading mechanism on my week old wii is noisey but i wouldnt say its anything to complain about, everything else is quiet. You just trying to find something to complain about?

mine needs to be rma'd but not going to risk not getting back for xmas as my son would hate me for that. So its going back around feb ! it has screen artefacts so vga has overheated i have read somewhere
