I'm in the process of setting up another computer.

The problem i've had is that Windows is incredibly slow to install. I.e. 32 hours!! no errors, installs fine, just amazingly slow. I thought i'd persevere and see what happens with windows loaded up. Again, its amazingly slow to do anything, not throwing up any errors and everything seems to work but even opening a window takes about 15 seconds. There is no hard disk thrashing etc or any other visible signs.

System specs are:

A8n-sli mobo
3200 +
2 x 256Mb ram
40gB maxtor hard disk
matrox G450 PCI graphics card
Lite on IDE DVD Rom.

Any ideas at all? I really am stuck on this one.

Reset the jumpers on the mobo and reset the bios. This happened to me and that fixed my problem. Good luck :)

Failing that, that sounds very, very much like a hard drive with death written all over it. The words 'Maxtor 40GB' helps convince me that little bit more.

I'd agree with that, definatley sounds like a HDD issue.

Oh and use your thread in GH- there is no need to post two threads on the same subject :)

Posted it here first. Did mention in the other one to delete if not appropriate.

Hopefully mods will delete this one soon.

Thanks for the help thus far.

Please do not post duplicate threads, does nobody any favours as posts get scattered and its hard to work out where everyone has gotten with troubleshooting.

In the future if its been in one section and has gotten no replies give a mod a email and they will happily move it to another section for you. :)
