Independent Game Shops?

Bloody hell, I admit I haven't been down there in a while but I didn't realise it had closed down. Used to get some good bargains in there at times.

Yeah there arn't too many left. Bring back fiction factory ! And what was the one years ago that was opposite tesco?

Grainger Games round here but I dont know if you would class them as independent anymore but I remember years ago when they only had one shop.

Bring back fiction factory

Fiction Factory, that's a blast from the past.

I know Chas, the owner of that place, used to hang about with him years back when he opened the first shop on Church Street, Stoke. Then he relocated to the arcade by Hanley bus station.

Yup Grainger Games is really cheap.. But i found that its worth a look around too. I got Bioshock on the day of release in the tin £22.99 from good old Morrisons.

then to where powerdome moved to... i used to work at powerdome when it was opposite the entrance next to vision express. good times working on a saturday talking to geeks and chavs who wanted to sell there master systems when the ps1 was in fully fledged circulation talking 1998.

There is at least one I know of in Edinburgh, called 1up. Honestly cannot see how any independant game store can make a profit. Some amazing deals online, not to mention deals in the high street gameshops or supermarkets selling the newest titles for £20 at times.

1up isn't even that great, good for looking at japanese imports but very impractical... :p Some older games in trade-ins are ok aswell, cex is selling professor layton for £45. :) I prefer online shopping to be honest now though.

LMAO @ Geeks and Chavs

You couldn't saved a little bit on typing finger 'wear n tear' and just typed 'Scum' lol ;)

We have Totally Games in town, started up when the Blockbuster the guy was working for closed and he saw an opening i believe. Its worked out even better for him now as Woolworths has closed...theres only him, Currys and Sainsburys that sell games, and i think that its only him that sells PC games.

Have to say its nice to have an indie store though, he's a sound bloke, my eldest lad is in there most weekends spending his bit of wages from his saturday job at my sisters pub...and Phil (the owner) even gave him some freebies on his birthday, you wouldn't get that in a HMV :D.

:)

Grainger Games aye, don't think they're indpendant now due to opening shops in Shields and others.

Theres an indie shop in Shields, PSX games, generally give you the games before release date and quite abit cheaper.

Which Shields is that then? North or South? Which road is it on?

In Newcastle in the Metro Centre there is a good independant shop called Maughan Micros. They sometimes accidentally break street dates too ;)

Been in there a few times.. I find i usually walk out after 2 or 3 mins. Prices were stupid the last time i looked. Some things were more expensive than Game lol

Ah now i know where your on about

I didn't know if it was Grainger Games you were on about or not? Grainger Games is on King Street, the main shopping street in South Shields, PSX Games is on Stanhope Road, the road leading from Tyne Dock to Chichester.
