Hey Guys.

I'm having some trouble getting a decent FPS count from a 9800GT on a 7 year old game called IL2 1946. It runs ingame at about 5FPS which is appalling, i know that one contribuary factor is my sound. When sound is all off which is done in the device manager it gets up to about 40FPS.
Another problem i have noticed is the existance of some ATI files in my Windows system 32 folder.
They will not go away. I click, i delete, and they reappear!

The file names are.

ati2cqag.dll
ati2dvag.dll
ati3d1ag.dll
ati3daag.dll
ativvaxx.dll
ati2.mfag.sys

I would really like to get rid of them so that i can eliminate them as a possible cause of my poor experience.

Thanks a lot
Mini.

They're not the cause, there's no need to delete them. They're the vanilla ATI drivers that come with the OS.

The problem could be with compatibility of the game, not the files since it's fairly old now.

How's the performance of the 9800GT in other newer titles?

It could be anything though, if you're on Windows 7 the problem could be there, could be drivers, anything.

You say it's the only 1 you play, was it working fine before then went bad? Or has it always been unplayable

Windows 7 or XP? theres a thread in the PC Games section somewhere with a fix for low fps on windows 7 with sound on but goes away with it off problems todo with the multi media scheduler.

OS is XP

I used to run the game on an ATI X1300. Now am running a Nvidia 9800 GT.
The 1300 ran it at a decent rate and it wa splayable. perhaps a compatability issue between Nvidia cards and these sound drivers?

The files could be protected by Windows File Protection and if so you would need to do more to remove them. There are lots of standard driver files in Windows installs no matter what hardware you have.

I don't think they should be just deleted unless you know exactly what they do and that they are the cause of your problem - this is often a way to do more harm than good ;)

Bit more info on spec? Sound in particular?

I've troubleshooted issues with this game before for a customer of mine and we had problems with stuttering with newer hardware. Try disabling things like multiple CPU cores, hyperthreading, and going back to older drivers (if that's the only games you play).

This game has a tendancy to need the card profile setting up after you have changed graphics cards, its been a while since i have played it, but there is a setup utility somewere in the game folder or shortcut menu were you need to re-specify the graphics card, have you tried this ?
