Hello

Need some help on a problem on my dads car. Its a 90's Accord, and yesterday the indicators stopped working completely, prior to that they would would switch of after a while now they dont work at all. Neither by operating the indicator stalks or the hazard button. I don't think there is a problem with light units as they flash when the alarm is operating.

Any ideas what it could be? fuse perhaps?

Not sure if the alarm lights and indicator lights work off different fuses but worth checking either way.

I had this on a friends old Megane. Took the light cluster out just to find the wiring was a bit manky. Cleaned up the connections and put it back together and worked fine.

Also heard that sometimes if one light is about to go they can start going a bit crazy. Mum had the reverse light popping on everytime she indicated on an old car because a brake light was on its way out.

Providing it's not some wiring under the floor or something any garage should really be able to sort that in a matter of minutes just by having a look if you don't feel too confident yourself.

Nope no trailer, seems like either the relay has gone or this flash box thing - not exactly sure what that is? would have been nice if it was just a fuse would have save some mechanic bills.

So your dad's car caught the BMW syndrome hey? Thinks it's too good to indicate?!

LOL he actually got swear-ed at last night by a driver who had to quickly swerve cos he didnt realise my day was going to turn right, with no indicators (albeit hand signals but the driver behind didnt seem to notice)

flasher can = flash box = turn signal relay

It's the same thing. I only asked about a trailer because it's the fastest way to blow one.

Only if you don't have the trailer wiring installed correctly. A trailer should not present any significant extra load to the cars flasher relay.

Why not? It's 2 extra bulbs, 176 Punto's used to go like clockwork when towing, the diesel model had a stronger relay anticipating a trailer, and you could just use that stronger relay, but without it I wouldn't say the tow hitch was incorrectly installed.

Oh right I thought the flasher box was the unit that relay goes into :p

anyway it does look like the relay has gone, the connections points on the solders are burnt out...trouble now is finding the part is tricky, a cheap one.

Thanks for the help.

Most "flasher" relays are pretty generic. You should b-able to find a replacement easy enough.
