Has anyone tried using Indium as a TIM? It seems to me that a pre-cut square of indium should be much easier to apply than the usual mess. I know the melting point is 156 degrees, so I suppose the real question is at what temperature it becomes sufficiently plastic to fill the gaps?

I'm not sure it would be a good idea to use an element with 1/5 of the thermal conductivity of copper to act as a thermal interface material, although according to wiki it is used for such a purpose.

The temperature it starts filling gaps at will be +30 above what your stuff will turn off at. Copper and Silver are the best two for conducting heat, with indium quite the way down the list. Well applied paste will do a far better job.
