What are everybody's thoughts on this? I interned in an IB for a few months some years ago and so got a quick feel for the culture, nothing too in depth. I've since worked mainly for insurers and so a different culture I would say.
I'll start off with the positives... It does accurately portray how competitive the culture is, how as a junior you'll be expected to format PowerPoints all day and fetch the lunch, the hours and the bullying. The sexual harassment probably isn't too far off. It's also good to have a show that is somewhat relatable and is an easy watch.
On the negatives, the cocaine taking, trading floor theatrics and debauchery is exaggerated in my opinion. Additionally, the acting reminds me of the type you'd see in a situational judgement test when applying for such a role. With that said, the creators did work for IBs and so perhaps this is based on how things were 'back then'...
All in all, I am glad it's on the screens and there's always going to be a hard balance to strike between keeping it as realistic as possible (which would be incredibly boring) and keeping it entertaining (which does require a bit of hyperbole).
