So I've been listening to Shpongle for years now. And I get a recommendation by lots of people to try out another band called 'Infected Mushroom'. It's psychedelic trance they say. I'm like, sure. One mate gives me the entire discography, including the latest release, Vicious Delicious.
And what the ****, this is the most unimaginative trash I have ever laid my poor bleeding ears on. Basically, what the guys at Infected Mushroom has done, is attempt to open each and every single song on the following albums:
The Gathering
Classical Mushroom
B.P. Empire
Converting Vegetarians
IM the Supervisor
With some weird and incoherent beats and synths (I suppose this is where they feebly attempt to put the 'psychedelic' tag on
) and then use the same identical samples and rhythm on every single each one! This is work spread across the years from 1999 to 2005, yet they can't even deviate from the copy-paste trance format?
It was only with Vicious Delicious they finally got into the '****ing awesome' territory with me. Each song on that album is so original and each one just makes you get the hell off chair and kick your grandma in the face with the beats. I wondered why Infected Mushroom finally gathered the balls to get away from the cliched 'dee dee dee doop doop dee dee' generic trance offerings that all the last works did. Well either way, they made a wise move - because if they kept copying and pasting the same synths, samples and beats over and over it would have made them go under.
I just cannot believe how they got away with some of the most repetitive album releases I've came across. I'm passionate about my electronica/ambient/psychedelic, so when some guys come along and say they're such when they're not - it gets on my ****. Vicious Delicious finally pulled them out of the generic mire and firmly into classic territory, but that doesn't excuse them for being cardboard cut-out trance hasbeens.
Anyone else/Infected Mushroom listeners agree with me?
