So I've come across a 70k 02 330Ci M Sport convertible with an ASA SK II supercharger.
The dyno readout says 340bhp.

The car is in good condition with a decent spec but it's missing climate and the MFSW. (random?!)
I presume retrofitting climate control is a complete waste of energy, although replacing the M Sport wheel for a MFSW can't be that hard?

Modding cars in Belgium is a PITA because a everything is illegal, so I'm intrigued as to how this was managed. Either way, it cost in the region of 10 grand to fit the bugger and the car looks pretty well maintained.
I've asked the dealer to give me a p/x offer so we'll see.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm presuming a supercharger detroys MPG as it's almost always on boost?
I haven't driven it yet as the dealer didn't have any plates available.

It's up for nearly €15k though, which is a LOT for an E46 cabrio. But then full spec good condition 330Cis go for that over here. Albeit facelift ones.

Thoughts?

How much is the same age M3?
The cheapest ones start at €15k, but with more miles.
And higher tax, running costs (I assume?) and insurance will be obscene.

For a nice one you're looking at €20k

Decent 330Cis aren't a lot less than this supercharged one. You'd still be looking at over €10k for a nice one.

What about buying an M3 from the UK?

My point being (as you know) that an M3 is in a different league to that 330 + supercharger, it might have quite a bit of power but it's not worth the asking price imho, its worth a little more than a stock car (at best).

I'd rather suck up the running costs and own an M3 or have a standard 330Ci.

Fair enough. I could get between €12-14k for my Z3 though so there's not a lot in it.

An M3 is out of the question unfortunately, unless I keep it on UK plates.
Insurance will be in the region of €2k TPFT !

Such a shame it costs so much to insure an M3.

Sounds like he's basically asking 5k for the supercharger kit, how much are they to buy new?

As we all know you never get your money back on mods, someone has to suck up the cost at somepoint, make sure it's not you ;)

The kit was €12k apparently.

The same money will get me a facelift 330Ci M Sport convertible in Germany.
So you're looking at around 2k extra for the supercharger, but with no import faff and associated travel costs.

I don't see the point in this over the M3 at all, what are the benefits other than the insurance?
Lower running costs? I have no idea really. The guy who spent ten thousand pounds on this conversion was clearly a nut.

Starting to sound a little more logical now, taken at face value it's a total rip off.

I still think it's far too expensive when you take the car as a total package.

Yeah, I'm more interested in feedback on the car itself rather than the price, if you see what I mean, as everything over here is a rip off when compared to the UK :)
I mean an 06 130i is €16k.
Ideally I'd get a 265bhp Z4 but those are still around €20k

I cant imagine a supercharger kit actually costing that much?
Most Rotrex ones i've seen are around 5k all in.
I think this is a G Power one. They cost an absolute fortune.
There's an 04 Z4 with the same kit up for €20k in Germany.

This is what it involves:

I drove a 330ci with an SKII kit on it when I was looking to move on from my 330ci in 2005. I then bought an E46 M3 instead. Totally different driving experiences. If you do a search through the Evotechnik forums, quite a few guys on there had them fitted a few years back, should be some useful info in there.

Have you checked out on the insurance costs? At the time, although going back a few years, the insurance for the M3 wasn't that much more than the charged 330. Warranty?

When the kits first came out they were certainly getting close to 10k for buying and fitting a Stage 4 kit.

Cheers for the link. How would you describe the experience?
I'm not expecting it to be anywhere near M3 standards.

Haven't checked insurance yet. It's from a used car dealer so it should have a warranty for a year.
I know the place that fettled with the car, and I'll ring them tomorrow to see what they can tell me.

Did we even get the option to delete climate control in the UK? I have never seen an E46 like that before (and i have owned 4 and been in rather a few more than that!).

Its crazy how a simple change like that can date a car. It almost looks like an E36 in that interior shot.
