Well finally got it installed into my new house after the date got put back 3 times and BT did not even tell me blamed it on engineering work to be done.. but got it in today im getting download speeds of 64mb and upload of 15, is it right to download lots now to get a good profile?

Cheers

It dosn't make any difference. Your profile will change slightly from one month to another anyway. Also, as more people in your area start to hook up to FTTC contention will come into play as well. I will say though, contention on FTTC is nowhere near as big a deal as it is with ADSL. I have been on FTTC for about a year. When first connected i was getting 76 down and 19 up. Now that things have settled down and more people are connected in my area, i'm getting 69 up and 18 down. Nothing to worry about really in the grand scheme of things.

The speed drops caused by your cabinet getting populated will be largely negated when vectoring is rolled out anyway.

ahh right ok no worries! I just heard that mentioned a few times not to worry, speeds good enough for me when I asked the engineer they told me that quite a few hundred were connected to my cabinet but obviously at peak times it may slow down ?

I've seen one instance of 21CN BRAS congestion. It took BT a week to fix it. Miles better than Virgin Media. :D

I haven't seen a single report of the links back to exchanges becoming congested.

I havn't either. I havn't noticed any slow down at peek times either. Certainly where i live, FTTC just works and works consistently well. A tiny slow down after it's first installed is to be expected as the line settles down.
