Hi All I,m very puzzled i have had infinity 2 for 3 weeks and was getting anything from 69Mbps to 72Mbps but recently its been all over the place ! each time i speedtest it i get something different ranging from 40Mbps to 63Mbps ? I,m on wireless via powerlines AV500 so i know its not going to be a good as an ethernet connection , but can,t understand why the eratic behaviour ?

There are plenty of reasons..

1) Wireless
2) Powerlines
3) Electrical usage in your house can cause spikes (see #2)
4) Local and/or ISP Congestion
5) More customers have upgraded to FTTC in your area so less bandwidth available for you
6) It isn't always you, it could be the server you are connecting too; connections could be saturated.

Etc etc..

yeah thanks you forgot another reason to add the weather at present :) So do you think the Powerlines are as good as a usb dongle ?

Not at all, powerlines are fantastic! Much better than USB dongles. But they can contribute towards an erratic connection as you already experienced.

I put my money more towards #4/5/6 personally.

thanks for the info and yeah i agree with the powerlines too i have tested a usb dongle upstairs and i get 6Mbp less than powerlines ! which doesn,t sound a lot but it all helps lol

It is more than likely congestion in your area or ISP. Over the last few weeks there has probably been more people in your street/area signing up for FTTC products therefore taking up the available bandwidth.
