Infinity - hub/route direct into switch

I'm confused on this one

Customer has asked about ditching the home hub / router all together an going directly into a switch.

So....

Wall socket > modem > Switch < they can then add AP's etc etc

Can this be done? What's need of the switch as i'm guessing there will be some login details needed for the line and DHCP server on the switch.

Customer has a Dell Powerconnnect 2724i but not sure if this switch will do

I'm not installing any of it, just been asked but way over my head

Not without a vdsl modem. Where do you plug the phone line in?

Unlocked HG612 is capable of doing this.

I take it the modem is still the white VDSL box BT supplies you?

On locked firmwire, no, since BT has set the VDSL modem to modem mode only, with no router capabilities. You need to unlock it to obtain the router settings if you want to use a switch.

So the switch can assign ip etc to everything within home or the VDSL box from BT?

The VDSL2 box would do DHCP.
