We currently have a walk-in shower in our bathroom and my wife has been yearning for a chance to sit in a hot tub and soak for a bit.

I've been thinking about a potential solution to this but I can't find the right product. I was thinking an inflatable pvc bucket / box / tub which we can just put inside the shower enclosure and fill it up when we want to use it and then drain it and fold it up when we don't want to use it.

Problem is, I can't seem to find a product that fits the bill. Here are the dimensions (800mm(W) x 1200mm(L)) but internal area is likely smaller so I've been looking for a 750mm (W) x 1100mm (L) inflatable upvc tub or box or anything basically we can fill with water and pack away when we're not using it.

Any ideas?

Disaster waiting to happen. The inflatable pools have a large base (i.e. 8foot+ across) so are relatively stable. Filling such a small inflatable enclosure with water is either going to result in it toppling, or the edge collapsing when leaning on it resulting in a very wet and very damaged house.

You shower enclosure also won't be designed to take the volume of water through the trap that a bath is so it will be a nightmare to drain afterwards.

That seems far too small for a tub anyway? It wouldnt be very relaxing sitting crunched up in water like that

She's quite small at 5ft2 and what she does at the moment is basically sit on the shower tray with her back up against the wall and her feet stretched out and she's still got plenty of space before her toes reach the wall.

I can see the point about water trap - our current drain can do 46 litres/min (our shower head is 37 litres/min flow rate so we needed a high capacity drain to deal with it). We'll still have an issue if we just tip the box over I agree, but I think it wouldn't take much more than 2-3 minutes to let it drain out normally (without tipping it all over).

The only real problem I see is the potential for water overflow or capsizing but I'd be there to help her get in and out and it really is only for her and only very infrequent use.

I've found a number of upvc inflatable tubs on fleabay but the minimum size I found was 1300mm (L) x 730mm (W). I was hoping one of you chaps had come across one that was slightly less long (1100mm) total.

I doubt the shower tray is designed to take the weight of all of that water plus a person either :p

I can't see this being a good idea either :p

1m2 of water = 1 tonne

and that's not just downward pressure, a tub inside a shower is also going to exert a sideways force too, onto a bit of plastic held in place by a 30mm screw.

I hope you like waterfalls... :)

Ah I completely forgot about the weight, you're 100% right. Even 200 litres of water in a capsule like that would probably weigh about 200 kilos. I'll have to abandon this and think of another solution.

Thanks for the input guys

You guys are going to laugh at this as did guy I purchased barrow from.

When we moved here we decided to go big shower rather than Bath/Shower as we have a small bathroom.

Once fitted I really missed a bath - it tends to soak the smelly parts of you and find a shower isn't as good no matter how long.

I did a search for a hip bath to go in shower but there is no such beast -

I found my solution at a garden center is shape of a wheelbarrow body - It's French made and doesn't have holes in base rather plastic sockets with captive nuts -

I finally got a body for a Heammerlin plastic barrow made in Walsall in West Midlands for 20 quid - I am 5ft 6" and I can just sit in it with knees up -It only needs about 5 buckets of water as your body displaces most of room. I only use it when feel it would be a good idea and just fancy a soak if my body aches after doing load of work in garden.

The rest of time it sit's on shed door.

My shower is 900 x1200

Easiest solution would be to go to the docters regarding your smelly bits being so smelly that a shower doesn't freshen them up :p
