How would I go about getting information off a laptop hdd ?

The disk is in fine working condition however the laptop it came from is not.

I have tried putting it in a different laptop, but it gets part way through booting, then blue screens and reboots (even in safe mode).

So what do I do to get the data off it?

you need a converter, i assume its an ide drive: you can get 2.5" to 3.5" ide adapter cables for a few £ from many places. then stick the drive into a normal pc and copy off.

if its sata drive, then the conenctors are the same as for a 3.5" drive iirc. so just plug and go!

I recently got a IDE SATA TO USB2.0 CABLE WITH POWER ADAPTER 2.5 3.5 UK from ebay.

You don't need the full kit above, just the USB to 2.5 would do if you can find one.
2.5 inch hard drives get enough power from the USB port, but 3.5 need the extra power.
I got the whole kit so I can hook any hard drive up to my PC via USB if I need to retrieve data. (was less than a tenner INCL P&P)

Just plug the IDE thing (or sata) into the laptop hard drive, and stick it in the USB port on your PC...
I post some pictures later if I get time.
EDIT: pictures added.
What's in the kit (all you need for laptop IDE to USB is top right)

The reason I got the whole kit as it fits any hard drive like
