Hi,

I tried to withdraw some money from one of them, it said transaction approved, then came up with an error and never dispensed my money but it was still debited from my account. I am raising a dispute with the bank. The ATM guys say they cannot print audit logs or anything else. They just change the receipts. Help :(

I've had that happen at a banks cash machine (Ulster Bank) and the money was automatically returned at midnight.

Absolute rubbish. The place where the ATM is located has full access to the logs, records and even the money within the machine. I know because I used to have to fill/empty one, as well as print off the logs at the end of every day.

It's probably just policy to say they don't have access... at least you know that the logs do exist...

Your bank should process an ATM dispute, end of. They deal with it all, not you.

Some ATMs don't have journal printers these days, they use an electronic journal. This makes tracing individual transactions almost impossible to anyone except Head Office staff. Saves a few quid on rolls/ribbons, but makes life difficult for staff and engineers.

Many are also replenished by Securicor/Securitas, so the on-site people don't have the keys.
