information boxes on the internet

Sorry if this post is not in the correct place, but, I have been looking for Christmas presents for my missus on the net. Now, on any site I go to, e.g. Google, ebay, ... if I click on an information box and start typing, a whole list of things I've recently looked at appears. It happened on this forum as I clicked on the box which asked for a title. I've tried deleting cookies and history, but that doesn't help. My wife uses the same computer as me and visits the same shopping sites and unless I can delete these things she'll find out what I've bought her for Christmas. Ok, so it's not a problem on the scale of global warming and 3rd World debt, but it would be nice to get it sorted. Any thoughts ...?

Hi

If you're using Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Options, Content, AutoComplete button, the press the Clear Forms button, the ok. That should do it.

In Firefox, just use the Clear Private Data in the Tools menu.

Thanks for that. It appears to have removed everything from the text boxes, which is great. There is still some retention of information in the address bar (using I.E.) e.g. when I type 'w' at the start of 'www', an apparently random selection of sites beginning with 'w' appear in a drop down list. The same thing happens with other letters. I think it's a result of me typing 'ebay.co.uk' into the address bar rather than 'www.ebay.co.uk' and then Google does a search for it (I may be wrong though). Any further help ...?

Usually clearing the temporary internet files and history will clear that out (it mentions that on the page where you clicked Clear Forms)
