Hi,

This isn't another PS3 v XBox beat-em-up. Am after some advice. I own a PS3 and my brother an Xbox. When buying a game there's always the 'which console do we buy for ' debate due to the differences between versions etc.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a comprehensive site that listed such differences between multi-platform versions of the same game to save having to go through countless reviews to try and find them mentioned.

Cheers

Edit: Apologies for the atrocious spelling in the title. Meant “Sought”, but can’t find how to edit it and hide my shame.

Cant remember where on the website but Gamespot has loads of articles on difference between PS3 and 360 games.

Yeah, Gamespot has a good couple of comparisons between the two.

If you are struggling to find which to get, cross-platform reviews will usually come out at the same time and not which is worse/better. You need to keep an eye out for things like extra content such as GTA4 on 360, and perhaps if it's multiplayer and achievements on the 360 would probably sway me a little (mainly the Live part, not the achievements)

I own both a 360 & a PS3, I have to say the 360 is great due to the fact there's a lot of games on it. But I'm sure (well.. I hope) the PS3 will have its fair share of games before the year is out. For me the PS3 has more potential, online gameplay is free, wireless connectivity is included & you dont need to go out & buy separate batteries for the joypad & to be able to play Blu-Ray is a bonus

I'm no Sony fanboy, but the hate the fact that I buy an xbox game for around £45 & then have to pay to play the game online, thats just daft or rip a off, depends how you look at it

Cheers for the info. Gamespot's multiplatform reviews do look to be the best source. (just a shame the've left out the PS3 version of DiRT from their review as was planning on picking it up for some weekend's entertainment)

IGN have a review of dirt for the PS3, http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/818/818371p2.html
They say its smoother and has less graphical problems than the 360 version else its the same, not sure if true, why they gave it the same score then.

To be honest, all cross PS3/360 games tend to be better on the 360, why?

Graphically, NFSC, COD3, THP8 look a little better and THP8 doesn't suffer framerates in the single digits although the 360 isn't much better.

Online content, you can't really argue the 360 has more to offer THP8 cannot be played online on the PS3 (it's 2007!!!) but can on the 360 but ya gotcha pay for it!!

The 360 also has the achievement system in place to keep us guys buying 360 games to increase the size of our gamerscrores, women, like bigger gamerscores, right?

Having said this, Oblivion is suppose to have better GFX and more FPS being pumped out on the PS3.

I'm not ripping on the PS3, I think given time for the excluesives to come in, it'll be a cracking system.

Good post.

You didn't really explain why they are :p

Most current multiplatform games are better on the 360. Even look at NHL 08, it doesn't even run smoothly on the PS3 and it's really disappointing as the 360 version runs at 60fps.

This will probably calm down a bit in the future as developers get used to the PS3's architecture.

Personally I don't care about achievments and unless the game is drastically different such as NHL 08 (to me, 60fps quite a huge miss) I buy them on the PS3. I have it setup as a media centre because its so quiet and I hate how the 360 scratches my disks :/ I also seem to sign into PSN much quicker and I like the XMB interface more.

Just look at reviews when the games come out and you can decide :)

Just a theory ... I've no proof to back any of this up.

It seems that since the PS3 which was only released recently (this year) that most of the cross platform games (COD3, NFS:C) which were released quite a while back were rushed onto the PS3 since COD4:MW & NFS:PS were in probably in dev or planned out so they didn't want to waste time and money on most 'old ports'.

The 360 was out before them games were even released so there wasn't as much rush and they could get it on whatever platforms they wanted it on, around the same time (PS2, XBOX1, PC). Any known bugs have had time to be ironed out.

Now the problem with the PS3, (which is why the XBOX360 has a brighter future in the short run) is that dev for the games is very hard so that closes down all of the small companies that just want to put a game on the shelf, even bigger ones didn't want to take the risk (Scarface was canceled on the PS3, but released on the PSP. Saints Row was canceled) and also NOT as many people own a PS3 as a 360 so releasing games on the 360 means more money! ... money!!

Both consoles are great ... in thier own way (I believe none is 'superior') I personally think that in about 1year+ time once all the exclusives are released for the PS3 (rememeber all the crazy Japanese RPG games?) that the PS3 will catch up a lot, and also chances are that the PS3 (like the PSP) will become hacked and homebrew code might even become bootable (emulators, media players, silly little games :P, full O/S) which will probably boost profits, it's probably going to be a while for the 360 to run all sorts of code (m$ invested a lot of money and measures to prevent this)

So personally, I think for now the 360 is the better choice ... however save money for a PS3 in a couple of years ... by then we'll have the PS3 slim! :O
