I did a quick search on the net, and here at ocuk forums and couldnt really find the answer.

My problem is this, i have just built a new PC running crossfire with 2x HD 4870's

I wanted to know if there is a specific insulation procedure, i booted it up just and didn't get any display and i tried the monitor in each of the 4 monitor sockets. (Its a fresh computer never booted before)

Do i have to install 1 card first, then install the second, i have no idea if im doing something wrong, which brought me to the web to find a result.

on a side note i also have an AC97 plug from the front panel and no where to plug it into on the mobo ... lol don't really know what to do with it, i expect the front socket just wont work.

My obvious major problem is how and what or where to start setting up these graphics cards, i just would like some advise if its possible.

Thanks

Just a little update, suppose i should have posted the systems specs..

MSI P45 Diamond Skt LGA775 DDR3 PCI E PCI-E CrossFire Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 LGA775 'Yorkfield' Processor
CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
2x HIS ATI Radeon HD 4870

Im hoping i brought the correct conponments.....

I tried it with just one gfx card, and i noticed that the motherboard had some warning lights, so i referred to the book and its telling me that the processor is either broke or not installed correctly.

Its brand new on Saturday though, which i cant understand, and so is the mobo they are compatible arnt they ?

Both your cpu and motherboard are compatiable .As for the cpu failure you got out the book ,make sure you have the cpu seated and fixed the socket down with latch firmly and got the cpu fan installed and its working correctly .Hope that helps if not im sure someone else will guide you out of this problem. There is a cpu installation guide on here somewhere anyway tierd ggot to go sleep :(

Have you got all power connections for the cpu and motherboard installed, ie the extra 4 or 8 pin for the cpu.

What PSU are you using!

Tried CMOS reset!

Im using a thermaltake tough power 850 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-063-TT

U mentioned the 4 and 8 pin power socket, i only have the larger pin plug, is it about 24pin at a guess plugged in..

I shall try pluging the other power sources in as there is space on the mobo for 1x 4 pin and 1 x8 pin

Ill let you know.. I took the cpu out last night and double checked it was fittted correctly and it was..

Let me try this power issue and ill get back to you, thanks for the reply

When I set up my rig with crossfire earlier in the year I just stuck one card in to install windows, then when it was installed, turned it off, stuck the second card in, plugged in extra motherboard power (my mobo has a molex on it for extra power for a dual graphics config), got into windows and enabled CrossFire. That's all you need to do, but it looks like you've got other problems now.

Thanks Reflux, ill bear that in mind m8.

Well thanks to the help here i found that i had not plugged enough power sources into the mobo, to power the cpu and pci card slots.

I booted up fingers crossed, and now the lights are saying the memory is faulty or not installed correctly !! :-( i know its installed correctly and i know it has to go in alternative slots, i even tried it with just 1 stick, and still it said that its not inserted correctly or its faulty... It just says memory, so im presuming it is referring to the ram.

I don't have any ddr2 sticks either !! I don't think i have over looked anything regarding power wise for the memory.

Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions ?

The actual manual says

"Memory Detection Test
Testing On-board memory size. The D-LED will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed correctly."

Is this memory compatible with the mobo i purchased, i hope it or ive made a big mistake ?

Thanks

are you starting with just one GPU though? That's always best, until everything boots fine and the latest Cat's are installed. Then put in the additional GPU.

Yeah i tried it with 1 gfx card to see if it would boot up, no joy..im gutted. dont really want to fork out more cash on more ram.

I dont really know what else to do though...

I looked at that computability and whilst your right its not listed, it is the right type... I only brought that ram because when i was researching my setup i saw a setup using/selling that ram with the motherboard, ill try and find it.
