oki doki

got my 6300 this morning and plugged it straight in

didnt even bother putting the motherboard inside the case and just testbedded it

oki i had to get some other ddr2 as my ocz wouldnt work unless the votlages were pumped up +0.3
once raised i got the pc2-8000 up and running

set the multiplier to 2.0 raised the cpu freq to 500, upped the voltages on the fsb and cpu and locked the pci-e

disabled all the other throttle crap and bingo

7x 500 = 3.5 ghz at 1.375volts using stock cooling at 42C

got it up to 3.6 ghz before it locked up

not a bad board considering it is b grade from OCuk pmsl
waiting for my actic freezer 7 then i will play a bit more :)

Very nice, what cooling are you using at 3.5? And what temps are you getting with that? Always good to see an overclock go so easily.

standard cooler with retail

like i said it is not in any case. infact it is sitting on top of the mobo packaging on the foam thingy ontop of my thermaltake xaser

the system temps are running higher than the cpu

46C sys
42C cpu

i think once inside the case it might increase another 2 or 3 c

i got 8 80mm fans to keep it cool though :P

remember to use TAT or CT to test your core temps. You'll probably find they're up around 50. Nice to hear that you don't need expensive cooling to get it up that high.

Shot in the dark but has anybody had any experience cooling a 6300 at high voltages with an Akasa 955? I bought it from a local shop before I discovered OCUK :)

oki I waited until my arctic arrived before installing into my xaser super tower :P

I got it all setup and removed my old mobo & stuff in the process :( [/me sobs]

oki so here is the spec

gbyte p965_s3 f8 bios
c2d 6300 OC @ 3.5 ghz 7 x 500 fsb [1.35 volts ]
OCZ pc2-8000 platinum 5-5-5-15 stock volts
hiper 580 watt psu
2x250 gb samsung sata2 raid 0 3gb/s
cheap pcie nvidia gfx ddr3

cpu idles at 42C according to Intel TAT and 52C on 100% load

i can squeeze an extra few mhz out of the fsb but for some reason the chip doesnt like being clocked over 3.5 ghz, something i have read about a lot on many forums - i dont think it is the ram or mobo or psu - just the stepping on the chip

cant moan really

this is what it cost me

46 notes including vat for mobo oc.uk
105 notes including vat and delivery from e*****.com for cpu
60 notes including vat from oc.uk
20 notes for gfx card from same place as cpu
15 notes for cooler from same place as cpu and gfx card

including delivery etc i think it was around 260 notes

not bad for quite a cheap system and better than expected outcome

Screenshots? Any stability testing done yet?

It's impressive, but useless unless it's stable and you can prove it. :)

That just says it gets into Windows at 3.5GHz - Orthos 8hrs is required to claim stability. You can laugh after you've posted that screenie. And for goodness sakes - change your trousers - you smell of urine after that PMSL thing. :p
