Im a dingbat to have forgotton this, but which pins do you cross to initialise the PSU without the mobo?
Initiating a power supply without a mobo. how?

Yes. Green to any ground will start the PSU. Just asking, but what are you doing with it? Anything fun or are you just testing to see if it'll start?

must have a load on the 5v and 12v rails or the votages will be out of spec

purely an academic question, one of my clients has a totally dead PC and i want to establish the fault, i do in home repair and this so happens to be the first ive had that looks like a PSU fault. Not having an on site testing rig i have to improv it. have a spare PSU anyway so this is belt and braces, always good to check with the experts
