Theres a cheap vauxhall astra for sale near me but he put it needs the inlet manifold replacing i dno if thats anything serious that you shouldent buy it evan if u replace it also he put it costs £200 plus labor to fix, Were would you get that fixed? and would you have to buy the part or would they?

Any competent garage will be able to fit a new inlet manifold. Then again it is a Vauxhall so could have some other hidden gems to find.

You buy it as seen, he has been up front about the work that needs done which is a bonus but you will need to pay for the work and the part to be replaced. It's a big enough piece of work for an engine, not something that would be replaced as part of normal servicing.

I'd be curious as to how the manifold broke in the first place before I bought it, i.e. has it been crashed.

Are you sure it needs the inlet manifold replacing, and not the inlet manifold gasket? Inlet manifolds are generally just a big lump of aluminium, there isn't really anything to go wrong.

I dno i havent spoke to him just in his ad he put what i just wrote that it needs to be replaced and will cost £200 plus labor

Which engine? What year?

Some of them have manifolds (Both petrol and diesel) which incorporate swirl valve mechanisms. These systems do wear quite badly Affecting performance and making a rattling noise and sometimes can bring up the MIL, If you ignore it they can break up and end up inside the engine (Double Plus Ungood!)

That was my thoughts, the manifold itself I's basically just tubing, be it plastic or metal. Unless its damaged somehow ie cracked or split... I would think a component that's integrated is what's bust, be it a sensor, gasket, butterfly throttle plate etc..

That's assuming they know what they are talking about...not sur how you would break an inlet manifold unless:

Nos! 'blown the welds on the intake manifold! Fast and furious quote. :D
