Inn03d 970 woes

Got me a Inno3D 970 but it over heats really badly.

While the GPU days 40c the heat coming off the card is immense
It crashes quite quickly.

The back board that is on the card is untouchable but the fans haven't even spun right up before it crashes.

I haven't over clocked it or anything like that, just stock speeds testing on an old game that it runs at 240fps so its not even taxing the card.

Any ideas??

I had the same issue, change the coolers. They are amazing after. Trust me...

I run SLI Inno3D 970's and the coolers are rubbish. I did have to spend £37 x 2 for two new ones but now I am in love with the 970 again, even the top card never goes above 60 and it rests right on the lower card. The bottom card has never seen 55c since the upgrade.

Good to know thanks

Raijintek Morpheus do?
I have one on order for a mate but would pinch it if i need it.

Whats that you have?

If it's running a game at 240fps, then the card is probably running at max capacity, hence the high temps.

I have the basic Inno3D OC 970, the fans are a bit noisy and it runs at 70-80 C under heavy load, but that's what you get for buying one of the cheapest 970's on the market :p

I did some research and bought the Accelero Mono PLUS, actually hard to find but bought them from the rainforest, so I would take a look on there. Came from Germany but no extra delivery cost or delivery delays.

I used Arctic MX-4 for the cooling material, works well, reviews are good and easy to spread, also from the rainforest place. I highly recommend it. Big tube for a cheap place.

Yes, that's just the cooler though, at 70c they throttle and are loud, you shouldn't accept that if you don't have to. Yes spending another £40 is annoying but as far as Im concerned they run better than the more expensive 970's out there now. As I said my top card never goes above 60c, as a top card in SLI considering it basically rests on the bottom one is fantastic!!! They also clock well.

Just an update from my POV for those that have this card.

I bought water cooler and a Raijintek Morpheus too.
Still the same problem though water cooler helped massively, so much the GPU would not reach 35c
Raijintek Morpheus was useless as the card gets hot and it has no way of cooling the card itself.
Even with fans on full the card still became hot.

Turns out the drivers for the card and the software (MSI) were overclocking it for some reason and once i turned down it would run sweet even with stock cooler. Stock cooler was the quietest anyway.

I haven't intentionally overclocked it and wouldn't now just in case. Please post your results if you do.

It was only one game causing this issue which was 'Dirt2'.
I loaded it through steam with 'Halflife' and didn't have the issue with Halflife which was perplexing.

Anyway, this card was for video editing and was meant to go SLI as it was cheaper than the 9800 but i cant fit two in my case as the second one covers an important PCIE slot for my Extenal SATA gear so i have upgraded to a 9800 instead. Which actually touches my hard drives :( - Measure before you buy

Sell my 9700 or can i add it to do video editing using a PCIE riser??

Don't they throttle at 81c (91c if thermal limit raised)?

I never got the temps as high as that to find out. The card got hot first and that certainly doesn't cut out at a certain temperature. They do throttle at some point, the software allows you to set a threshold.

The cooler dyonisis007 was on about cant be had anymore when i looked.
