Input on AMD build

Thank you for explaining it more elegantly than i could. :)

Would it be right to assume that the odules work like real cores though each module is built up of 2 core which cannot interact with other module cores?

It does have 8 cores but i won't work nearly as well as any intel equivalat 8 core offering.

Which doesn't mean a thing.
A Phenom II X4 doesn't work as good as a 3570k.

Hey,

Any input on this build? I've pretty much settled on those parts but was contemplating a couple of things.

Firstly, whether to swap the Sabertooth for a cheaper UD3 and save £30 or so. Would they both perform relatively similarly or is it worth paying slightly more? I do plan to have a play with overclocking.

Secondly, do you think it would be worth spending an extra £20 to £30 on a 7870 XT, specifically the Sapphire one on this site? Would I see a significant difference in gaming performance? I'm thinking there would be less driver support for the XT and the Asus i've chosen would be a more solid card.

Any other suggestions or feedback would be great :)

I have the 8350, phantom case also but 820 and a 7870 but the gigabyte OC version.

Everything you have there is fine, motherboards are both good it'll be down to personal preference in the end. For my i'd personally choose sabertooth. But both boards are definitely good.

The only thing I would personally change in your build is maybe go for water cooling? unless you plan on using stock settings. I use the kraken x60 on the crosshair v formula z

Also unless you want to use the asus usb wireless reciever in different systems it might be worth while just getting a pci one like i've done in mine although i don't use wireless on my desktop anymore but its just there incase i do need it

True, sorry. Got a bit carried away.

What I was trying to say was, don't think the 8350 will future proof you more than the i5 or i7 'because it has twice as many cores' because, its not that simple..

:)

Well that escalated quickly. :p

Cool. Yep, I'm going with the Gigabyte because at current price levels I don't think the Sabertooth is worth £30 extra for me.

I'm considering a PCI wireless adapter, do you recommend any in particular? I'm thinking maybe one with an antenna that can be positioned ontop of a desk might be a good option, rather than at the rear of the machine.

For cooling I think i'm going to stick with air at this stage. I'm planning for a moderate overlock, but not looking to push any boundries or anything.

Still pondering over the graphics card.. the Asus 7870, Club3D XT, VTX3D XT and the slightly more expensive Sapphire XT with it's dual fan cooler. Although again, i'm not looking to go too far with overclocking the card.

That's fine it is your opinion after all on the mobo but as said before they are both good. Wireless pci I bought from overclockers is not being sold anymore (mainly because it is abit old now) In my opinion any wireless N from a well known reliable manufacturer from asus tp-link or netgear which overclockers sell would be decent.

TP-Link 450mbps wireless N duel band £27.98 inc VAT
TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless N PCI Adapter £19.99 inc VAT

Would be my options, the asus one is nice but Not listing it as it is out of stock and no eta evailable. You have a nice build and setup so If you wanna go for something decent I'd ge tthe tplink 450mbps one

Club3D and VTX3D version of 7870 are basically the same just different stickers ;) All I can say is you won't be disappointed with either

I bought one for myself the other day and its probably the best wireless adapter ive ever used.
Dam right! pci-e wireless network cards are a great addition to any desktop mine was so useful and id be at least 20 metres+ from the router. Now I have a 25M gold ethernet cable since the build in network interface on the crosshair v formula z is great! But my wireless pci-e card still sits inside my case incase i ever need it :D
