I removed my stock intel cpu cooler, accidentally wiping a majority of the thermal compound off the heatsink, i replaced it and obviously the temps were quite high, idle around 50c, load over 100.

I applied Akasa thermal adhesive tape to replace the compound to the cpu however im still getting really high temps.

Before i accidentally removed the compound idle was 29c and load was about 70c.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You overclocking, which chip have you got?

Intel stock cooler is pretty bad, especially if your using tape instead of thermal compounds, buy some good compound like Arctic Cooling MX-3.

Is it dusty?

e3300, was overclock at 3.33GHz and idle was 29c.

but even now at stock 2.5GHz its way hot.

Also not dusty, very clean

Thermal tape is for the likes of attaching heatsinks to RAM on graphics cards etc. It is not designed to attach a CPU heatsink.

Ok thanks.

Thanks for the replies, i'm going to purchase a decent thermal compound and fan.

To be more precise:

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 PRO Rev.2 and Gelid GC-Extreme Cutting Edge Thermal Compound 3.5g
