I can totally see why anyone would want a gaming laptop. You have portability and power, albeit at the expense of battery life. Though I don't get why most gaming laptops are 17".

17" laptops aren't portable compared to a 15 or 13" laptop. :/

Hi Ricochet,

Not all of the range is 17", and for Gigabyte this is actually our first move into the 17" screen form factor..

We do also have 15.6" (P35) and 14" (P34), so there are more portable but still powerful options available.

Full range here:-)

Speaking of, is there any more news on the arrival of the P34K?

Hi Art,

At the moment we have only brought the P34W into UK market, but in quarter2 we will look at brining in P34K.

Thanks,

Performance Award for Gigabyte P37X from Heaven Media

...."As for gaming, that is where the system really shines. The GTX 980M and i7 combo offers excellent performance in modern games, regardless of their genre."

Review was conducted when our price on this laptop was £1,899,,, now much lower with OcUK :-)

"A premium price however build quality, performance and features make it worthy of the cost."

So now with a price tag of less than £1,650 we believe this unit represents excellent value for the specification.

I am really interested in picking up this system - My desktop is really starting to struggle these days....Only thing I have changed since I bought it in 2009 are to add an 500GB Samsung SSD and a second hand 6000 series ATI GPU.

The thing that drives me batty about my current setup is the noise when processing games of almost any kind.

How loud is the P37 when running a game (say, BF4 or Cities: Skylines) for an hour or two? Will I require headphones?
Also, if it does get a bit noisy, how quickly would it return to acceptable levels of volume once I quit gaming?|
(My current desktop takes forever, as if it is having some kind of convulsion, before calming down!)

Cheers :-)

Hi AlanJamesLewis,

Thanks for your interest.

The system will produce fan noise when under load of course, but this is normal for higher end performance laptops...

Heaven Media Commented: "When really pushing the system the fans do get noticeable (again solved by headphones) but in general use the system is quiet."

The component temperatures come down very quickly once the system is not pushed and the fans return to normal speed. The system is also equipped with "fan tweak" software that enables you to influence the fan operation manually.

Hope that helps,

I heard these things have overheating issues. I saw a youtube video the other day guy claiming the CPU was reaching 91c. I did want a new gaming laptop but i just decided to buy a few bits and get my old one fixed up, who can afford 1600 quid in times like this in the UK is beyond me hehe.

With this P37X version is the screen IPS and can you switch to Intel GUP to extend the battery life? In comparison the Aorus X7 v2 - CF2 is the fan noise levels any higher?

17" laptops aren't portable compared to a 15 or 13" laptop. :/

Depends - if its purpose is a desktop replacement either due to space constraints or moving about a lot then 17" can be preferable and portability less of an issue.

As regards fan noise - the reality is that all gaming laptops with one or more fans will be noticeably noisy under load as they're working very hard indeed to pump out the graphics and get very hot very quickly on any graphically demanding game. Because the laptop will likely be on the table in front of you that noise tends to be more noticeable than when say, the fans are in a case on the floor.

The issue is that the fans will spin up and stay at fast speeds once they get there as long as you're gaming - they don't tend to quieten back down.

I find my fans distracting - but a distraction that can be easily managed with a pair of noise-cancelling headphones when gaming. For lighter use (watching films, wp etc, the fans are very quiet.

Ultimately, the only reasons to go laptop over desktop is if you need the space or the portability. Personally I hate gaming for any length of time on a 17 inch display and use a monitor anyway. As a result, the laptop doesn't save any space issues for me.

Simply not true.

My P37X was as loud as my wifes hairdryer and my X7 even louder, they lasted a day and an hour respectively before the return process was initiated.

By comparison my G751 is barely audible, my wifes G750 even less so and the GT72 I used was not even close to P37X noise levels.

Designing a laptop instead of buying off the shelf parts appears to yield a reward in terms of heat and noise.

I can't see any scenario where using a hairdryer to game on is an enjoyable experience, even with closed back sennheiser headphones at an unhealthy volume level the hairdryer was all I could hear.

There are better engineered and cheaper solutions available.
