Last night i turned my pc on about 12am to keep some downloads going, couple steam downloads so no extra programs were added. I run 16GB DDR3 Kingston RAM, when i woke up an hour ago it had "Your pc is running out of memory" on a popup, only 7-8 hours of running idle download had i noticed 95%! of my memory was being used by seemingly nothing, and my MalwareBytes and Anti-Virus scan comes up completely clear, no issues atall.

I havent replicated the issue this morning after reboot, it seems fine now and i'm going out for a few hours so hopefully that gives it time to do it again if it will, but would a fresh install seem the best option right now?

cheers guys.

On W10? I do wonder whether W10 runs updates in the background with no outward indication at all that it's doing so.

Sorry man yea it was Win10, i7 4790k @ 4.5ghz, 16GB Kingston Hyper X, GTX 980ti Msi and a Msi Gaming 7 Mobo.

So far today, it seems fine, it's idling at 16% usage using just steam, mumble and chrome. I do need to fresh install soon anyway just to make sure drivers are ok y'know but i was so worried seeing 95% of 16gb being used without showing any processes exceeding 60mb at most

It was mentioned in another thread there is a service called SuperFetch which has a memory leak. Disable it to free up your RAM.

Hi, this happened to me for a couple days - would reach 95% mem usage after a while with just a game, skype and browser open, Task Manager didn't show culprit.

I updated Afterburner/RivaTuner and the (Killer) network driver for MSI motherboard and all good (so far). I have a feeling it was mostly the network driver and some new Windows 10 process working to store up too much network data in the memory.

So do try it if the other recommendations don't do the trick.
