Hey guys, i just had to get this off my chest and make sure im not overlooking something...

I know a little about memory, enough to know that 7 7 7 20 cas timings for DDR3 1600mhz are well, very impressive, especiiially considering the price £58... the make - patriot viper.

Why hasnt everyine snapped these up yet, ill admit they look a bit cheap in the pic, is this reflected in the quality, ive only heard of patriot recently but see they review well for a bit of extra cash.

Whats the score? I cant figure out why their lower spec stuff is well, lower speced and priced higher. Im stumped, but might get some even though ive been looking at the AMD black edition OCZ DDR3 1600... which is sexy, but £30 more

Ideally I believe these are more suited to AMD systems as the recommended voltage is 1.7-1.8v were Intel i range required 1.65v max ~ weather this has changed recently as a few people have mentioned Intel can take higher voltage memory.

I have been running the Vipers in my i7 system for over a year and they have not missed a beat.

So how would these compare to say the other two i like...

OCZ3P1600LV4GK OCZ platinum @ 7 7 7 24
or
OCZ (with AOD support (not sure if this works on my 890gb chipset mobo))AMD black edition CL 8-8-8-24.........

isnt the 24 TRAS basically the total cycle time - so how quick th3e memory is overall? so the two OCZ sticks perform the same, but the patriot is quicker? i WILL be overclocking if i will get more speed out of these, maybe the OCZs will overclock better (or underclock the timings).

Ive read a review that lower clocks AND lower Mhz is better for quickness - i currently have ddr2 platinum ocz which runs at 5 5 5 15 and scores 7.5 in windows 7 index.... these amds score around 6.5 im told - much slower, even though its ddr3.

So confused which stuff to get... need to make up my mind quick though as the platinum i can see somewhere used (only one left) at just £70, same as the pariot with postage costs so PLEASE any help appreciated

I am amd by the way, thinking of gettin a 955 be cpu

I also see the OCZ obsidian for just £73 new, but has CL 9-9-9-24 timings, which arent so good right? it looks nice though the black stuff! :)

So is 1.65 about right for an AMD board, i mean, what should i be looking for volt wise - im finding a lot of the OCZ memory im liking is being listed as low voltage intel ram - but this is still ok for amd systems correct - you just have to up the voltage, which in theory if the chips come with lower volts, will give better overclock potential?

aahhh maybe the higher voltage explains the better clocks? so the OCZ sticks could prob run at 777 20 with that volatge? Im gonna try them i think

yeah, let us know how you get on with the ocz ram, they are always good overclockers

yeah will do, im going to do some serious modding though so wont be for a while till i start overclocking (im hoping to make a real nice pc, take some photos, and sell some to friends customers:D)

Im going all black and green, tough to get a mobo that is black though so i think ill end up spraying

you can, but really need to be sure on the paint.

If you need a black mobo, try the Asus M4A78LT-M LE

Supports AM3.

think i may avoid spraying the mobo actually i think it could be quite stupid really.... might spray some ram though, just seen the dam patriot stuff has gone back up by a tenner but its still got the quickest timings of ddr3 ive seen. DAM shuda bought it when i saw it.

guys can you PLEASE clear something up in my head for me???

The patriot viper can run 1600mhz @ 7 7 7 20, but has to be set to high volts of 1.9 right? SO if the OCZ is rated at 1.65v for say 9 9 9 25, can you adjust the frequencies the same as you would with the patriot viper?
