Insanely high HDD activity from Chrome and IE.

Started happening the other day. I've got "Enable phishing and malware protection" unticked in Chrome which is supposed to reduce HDD read/writes, and I'm using the "--new-safe-browsing" trick too. I know Chrome generally has issues with HDD spam, but never had it from IE before.

Why are they both doing so much to my hard drive? I'm not downloading anything.

Edit: Forgot to add the picture!

I used to get something similar with Safari but I've never experienced high disk usage with Chrome or IE.

With Safari it was related to the cache for the "Coverflow" Topsites favorites to which it constantly read and wrote to the disk. Insanely annoying.
