Insanely slow boot up and laggy when starts PC

Before you go replacing that drive have you confirmed that's the drive that's failing?

As said though your PC will boot in 3 seconds with an SSD. I too use my mechanical drive for data and a USB drive to backup the data drive. Once you go SSD there is no turning back!

**Quick Update**

I went ahead and bought the Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA drive last night - installed it and everything was rapid, the start up and shut downs (even though I had it plugged into a SATA 2 port until Samsung Magician told me) plugged it into a SATA 3 port and I've never seen a PC boot up and shut down as quick in my life!
Very impressed so far!

Did you make sure your using AHCI mode in the BIOS? Needs turning on before you install Windows although a reg hack has worked for me in the past.

Yeah it's set as AHCI in bios - someone posted above to do that and as windows is booting it says what drives are installed etc. It was just when I installed the Samsung software it says it's in a SATA 2 port and not 3 so I downloaded the motherboard manual and found where they are! :)
