Summers here and the insects are flying around everywhere at night. My housemate and GF get bitten relentlessly at this time of year, in the garden, and at night with the window open too.

I however have never been bitten in my life. Why do they avoid me? :)
I'm not complaining, I'm just curious as we eat pretty much the same things and all have a shower at least once a day lol

It is to do with the amount of natural oils your skin produces, if your skin produces more of these oils then you are more likley not to be bitten.

i got bitten recently by mosquito's in majorca, i scratch them in my sleep, so they itch like a mofo when i wake up :p

one got me under my foot, the bugger

I'm curious too.

When i went on Holiday to Malaga last year, i didnt get bit once, despite me going everywhere we all went. My sister got bit about 5 times a day at least, and my parents a little less.

Same this summer. Not been bitten once, and not been bit for as long as i can remember.

I have never in my life been bitten by an insect. It's bizarre, not that I'm complaining.

The only reason I can think of is that I have eczema, and insects therefore don't find me tasty enough :D

I get bitten a fair bit. Which is bad as on me they swell up to the size of boils - apparantly i'm mildly allergic to them but it's still enough to turn it into an ugly red lump that itches like crazy. :(

Its to do with the allergic reaction to the bite, you still get bitten, but you dont know about it because theres no reaction.

I thought the reason for the swelling was the chemical the insect injects into you to coagulate the blood so it's easier for them to drink?

If it doesn't swell then surely they go without?

the swelling comes after as a reaction to the chemical afaik.

otherwise the insect would be stuck in the swollen flesh!

Do people with higher blood sugar not make tastier snacks?

I only have this theory because my mother and I have sweeter blood generally than my dad and brother. They never get bitten, we do. Just a logical theory.
