Sorry this is a bit gross...

But apparently we eat beetles & bugs in our food without even knowing it.. This has made me feel a little sick!

(I found this on JG Pest Control's blog post: http://www.jgpestcontrol.co.uk/blog/insects-food/)

I was well aware that quite a few additives are of insect origin, does it bother me? Not in the slightest.
There are also set levels for the amount of insect bits allowed to be in food set by the FSA, so not only are you eating things that use insects as ingredients there's also plenty of bits in your food ;)

Interesting information if only to flesh out my knowledge of how much delicious insect I consume.

A lot of people don't know much about what they consume and are far too squeamish about things too.

As much as I wouldn't want to chow down on a bowl full of any variety on insect, if they can hide it in my food as far as taste and appearance goes whilst still being honest in the ingredients then I don't mind :) should make for cheaper food lol

There are already loads of bugs in your gut etc. no matter what you eat, surely?

What made humans so squeamish over the years I wonder (including myself in that)?

Processed food and the separation of the consumer from the production process.

Personally I find the idea of butchery pretty horrible but I want to do it myself sometime so I can appreciate the food chain a little better. As a meat eater it seems a bit lame to not be able to deal with removing the skin of an animal, ripping out the internal organs and then slicing up the muscles. Yeah, horrible image, but that's what happens to all the meat we consume so...
