Had a customer call me who inserted a PCI card with the PC still on and fully running.

I am concerned that they could have damaged some components? How likely is this?

your customer could have got lucky, but then again they might not! does everything still work ok?? as for elise or vx220, if you are female get the elise male then the vx220! :D

he really shoulda got punished by electroshock theropy or a sharp black cloud of smoke for attempting to hot plug a pci card its just not done is it.
silly poeple try some silly things.

I've destroyed a PCI network card by accidentally by doing something similar. Not a pleasant smell when components burn. :o

Luckily, the motherboard and the rest of the system was fine though... no real harm done... just a £5 network card. :)

Well the PCI card was borked as was the Cat5 cable connected between it and the router.

All OK now though.
