As much as I love my custom MMX 300 I can't help but think it might have been a little more reliable if it was made in bulk with the regular ones lol.

When I first received it one of the drivers developed a rattle which resulted in an RMA to get the driver replaced.

As of yesterday I've noticed the mic has a fairly pronounced buzz which doesn't go away in a different soundcard (Titanium HD or the supplied Beyerdynamic USB soundcard) and I also tried the headset in a different PC just to be sure!

I had a quick peak inside but couldn't see anything obviously wrong! Took some pics in case anyone cares :P

I didn't bother taking pics of the 32Ohm drivers since they look like any other 32Ohm DT 770 I guess but here's the little PCB that links the drivers and the mic from the boom along with a few close ups for those who know what they're looking at!

That is disgusting soldering for a Beyerdynamic premium cans. I would be so annoyed at the serious effects that kind of crud can have on the sound I'd return them. I'm opening up my £300 Ultrsones tonight for a comparison of wiring quality.

I'd open my T1s to compare too but since they're working I'd rather not lol

Just worries me that clearly the left and right + and - audio connect to where we can see and dispite reasonable thickness of copper the soldering at the end is a mess. I've chipped psone with higher quality soldering than that back in the day when I was learning lol

Yuk looks as if the excess flux hasn't been cleaned off after the soldering! You could maybe try cleaning it off with isopropyl alcohol and see if that has an effect?

Yeah I noticed the flux there but wasn't sure whether cleaning this off was normal practise?

I'll probably box it up and get it sent back anyway since I've already got the RMA number but it's definitely a pain in the butt!

It's obviously just not a pair of cans Beyer particularly takes care with. It'll be interesting to see if your replacement pair are any better.

The problem might be that these are custom 'Manufaktur' cans so they can't just swap them out one for one. Either build quality at Beyer isn't what is used to be but 2 out of 4 Beyer products that I own have needed repairing.

MMX 300:

One driver had a rattle at high volumes so it was RMA'd and drivers were replaced
Now mic has a buzzing sound

T1s:

One driver also had a rattle almost straight out of the box. They were RMA'd and drivers were replaced.

At the time there was a shortage in T1's and parts which meant I had to wait for drivers to be made available from Germany. I was told that normally they would simply replace one for one if parts weren't available but since the headphones themselves also weren't available I had to wait.

The poor soldering could be down to the UK repair guy. Apparently this guy is only at Polar Audio (The UK repair centre for Beyer) once a week. If the parts arrive on a Thursday you have to wait till next week to get it repaired >.<

Despite all this I still love the equipment :/

Well it might have been ok when it came out their end... It's possible that it was resoldered by chimps here in the UK when it was repaired so I don't know if this is the normal standard lol

I could take apart my other other headphones... Perhaps for a rainy day!

Tis actually not that hard but I know the feeling :P Tis the same reason why my T1s are still in one piece but I was given an old pair of 90s DT 990s too so I might take a peak inside those :)

Got my MMX 300 headset back today! Mic sounds better again and apparently they fixed it by replacing one of the drivers... Interesting!

Came back to see if any more pictures came up on here as I kinda want a pair of MMX300s now as not having a mic is annoying me but I refuse to use something like an Astro headset as the sound quality is not the best. Glad you got them fixed.
