Inside Original Xbox (strange gunk)

Just opened up an Original Xbox and wondered is it normal to have than gunk round the capacitors

Yes, nearly all modern PC PSU's have it... I think it's to stop the components vibrating and causing noise/whine.

Think it's going in the bin anyway as hard drive needs replacing (sounds like a jet engine) plus it's not reading game disc's have given lens a good clean but it's a no go only need it to read a game disc for a few min's so i could softmod it lol
