So my car is due a service, Insignia 1.8 petrol, it's done 23k miles and is 13 plate

Can anyone tell me what kind of service I should be looking at and if I need to go with a main dealer to keep the warranty?

Main dealer quoted me £213 for a full service and when questioned as to what this includes, told me to check the handbook. When I said that he should surely know, he simply mumbled about the pollen, air and oil filter and 'other stuff'. Hardy confidence inspiring.

The hand book is no help and gives no indication as to which service is needed and when.

Any help you can give is appreciated. It's only had one service previously by its previous owner.

The guy booking you in won't be the 'technician' doing the services (whether that's a good thing or not is debatable in most dealerships!). I'm open to being corrected but I understand as long as the work is carried out as per the schedule, by a VAT registered garage (this part is important) then the warranty must be honoured. If they don't publish the service schedule though?.... Have you double checked? Is it in a separate booklet?

I asked the booking lady to put me through to the service department, that's who didn't really seem to know.

Yes, double checked. There is a service booklet but it has nothing about the schedule.

The service interval for the Insignia is 12 months or 20,000 miles whichever comes first

The Insignia service is usually this:

Interim is only oil and filter, full is oil and all the filters, none of the services include glow plug change.

Absolutely no excuse for a service advisor not to know exactly what is being provided for the price. That alone would put me off using the particular dealer you've already contacted.

There are some discount sites for dealers you can check to see if there is a better deal on offer fairly locally too, once you've confirmed what should be included.
