Hi there, I'm gonna try and change the CPU in my laptop from a Sempron to a Turion 64 x 2 (TL-58 TMDTL58HAX5DC).
I've updated my bios to the latest available and am pretty sure this will cover me up to a TL-60 TMDTL60HAX5DC.
I've watched some guides on You-tube and downloaded the service manual so If I take my time all should be well but I'm not sure what thermal compound or pad to use on the CPU heatsink. I still have some Arctic Silver 2 that I used for my main PC a few years back.
Is it worth cleaning off all the gunk from CPU & Heatsink and applying AS or are laptop heatsinks pretty crude and need a thick thermal pad..?
I spent hours lapping my PC heatsink but don't know if it's sensible to take the same attitude with a laptop heatsink.
All opinions greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Most new cpu's dont have a thick pad these days, it will either be a grey or white paste, or a foil based TIM with paste underneath, basically clean the cpu and heatsink well and then apply a thin layer or single blob and allow the pressure to spread it.
