After rebooting my laptop this afternoon while installing some software, I have started to get a message on boot that the laptop is not recognising the power pack and as a result the battery may not charge. I have read on other forums this is not uncommon with Dells, though the power pack is a relatively new replacement for the original which had the DC output wires starting to stretch.

On a subsequent reboot, the same error displayed so it seems I now have a laptop which is no longer charging the battery. Is it possible this problem could be related to the software installation (Trainz 2010) which has somehow borked the system, or more likely just a coincidence?

my 1525 does exacly the something. I've had 4 different power packs and it made no difference. Now I have to press the plug in VERY! hard to get it to charge. The solution can be bought for £35 but I can't remember the part.

Edit.

Dell Inspiron 1525 DS2 LIO Power USB Board 48.4W006.021

Can be had for £35 from an auction site.

Well strange thing, powered up from cold this afternoon and didn't get the message. Maybe it was the new Trainz software installer and patcher that stressed something.
