Hello!

New here, and am already seeking advice...

I bought a dell 1525 laptop a few years back, and it started groaning and creaking about six months ago. Was considering just buying a new one, but thought that was silly, it's only 3 years old (:S)...

So, upgraded to OS to Windows 7 Ultimate (extremely happy now I'm vistaless), and sorted out a few physical bezel and hinge problems, and cleaned out the fan.

Now I'm looking at RAM and hardrive upgrades. Maximum RAM in this 4 gig, but being a 32 bit system will probably only recognise 3-3.5. Any ideas on compatible/cheap RAM that I can install?

Secondly, I am looking into the possibility of installing an SSD into this? I saw that crucial did an upgrade but it was £700 for a 500GB model which is way too expensive. I am considering using a 120GB SSD and supplementing this with an external USB HD. Is this wise/possible? And if so, could you recommend any drives that fit the bill?

Would love to hear any opinions.

Thanks,

JK

Reinstall Windows and install 64 bit, Crucial are good for RAM.

An SSD would be good but no disrespect but by the time you have bought an SSD and RAM, Never mind the price of Windows 7 Ultimate you will have spent more on the laptop than it is worth!!

What are the specs of the laptop

Pentium Dual Core @ 2ghz
2GB RAM
Windows Ultimate 32 Bit
Dell 1525 motherboard
150 GB HDD

Will my hardware run 64 bit? I got my windows from uni, so I can ask and see if they have a 64 bit version available, I haven't spend any money on it yet, and the SSD was just a little idea. But I would like to put more RAM into it, so will the 64 bit version allow me to?

JK

*Though I can't see why I would really need more than 3.5GB in my system...
