Hi

I've been given an old inspiron 3847 with 1150 board. It currently has an i3 4130 processor. What should I change it too to see a tangible difference?

A 1050to graphics card has already been added.

I want to keep the price down as I might as well have bought a brand new one otherwise.

Thank you

I'd be surprised if a prebuilt Dell would allow a CPU upgrade. And if you can, the only options you'll have would be 4000 series i5 and i7, but they're likely to be silly money. Just had a look and the 4770K is still selling for £150+ and you couldn't benefit from it fully because your Dell board won't allow overclocking.

Besides, all this is academic anyway, your 1050Ti will probably be the choking point before the CPU is. Just play some games and see what happens, but personally I wouldn't put any money into that Dell.

You can get i5s (4570, 4590, 4670 or 4690) for about £40-£60, a lot of games now will need the 4 cores, but if you're mainly playing older stuff, the i3-4130 and 1050 Ti should be enough.
