Hey all,
Been suffering recently from a spate of instability issues finally resulting in the machine refusing to boot (even into safe mode) a re-install of the OS resulted in the machine crashing halfway through the re-install process. These crashes are extremely un-informative! i.e. no blue screen etc, they just either re-set the system or just freeze the screen.
I have had the 7800GTX out and tested that, all seems fine, and now I have re-seated all components inside the PC.
I have been running Memtest next and with both pieces of memory in the PC (2 x 1gb PC3200 OCZ EL Duall CH Plat Edition) I received one error on test 7, with 1 pass.
I have then removed the memory and re-run the test with single pieces in the first memory slot on the mobo individually and with 2 passes each no errors turned up on either piece of memory.
One of my many questions is, is this more likely to be a memory error or a motherboard error? Remember, 2 pieces of memory loaded = 1 error, individual pieces of memory = no errors??
I am currently stress testing the CPU, but I know of no ways to test a motherboard for stability / errors etc?
Thanks for any wisdom...
